Better known as eastern canada's "house music bad boy", Lee Fraser stands apart from the rest. His style and choice of music is unsurpassed by anyone who has played along side this Cape Breton native. Lee began his DJ career at the age of 12 and then bought his first pair of decks at the age of 14. From there he has gone onto placing 2nd in the 2005 DJO's, 3rd in 2006 DJOs and was a finalist in the 2007 DJ Idol in Halifax, NS. Lee has also held numerous residencys throughout Halifax, Antigonish, and Saint John, NB as well as releasing 3 cds and touring annually. In spring of 2005 Lee teamed up with Courageous Productions in Halifax, NS as a resident DJ. In the summer of 2005 Lee co-founded Heavy Shorts Productions, a music event management company based out of Cape Breton, Antigonish and Halifax, NS. | BIOGRAPHY: |
Tony Gore (AKA DJ Phasta) became involved in the electronic scene in 2002 through University friend Jordan Van Den Hoonard, front man for GravyTrain Productions. Taking an immediate liking to the scene, he not only attended the events but also helped out in any way he could, taking it all in as he went. With an amateur background in Graphic art, this eventually led to him becoming the main graphic artist for both GravyTrain Productions and Boom Nightclub's Sunday Open Turntables. However, this was not enough for Tony, and through the help of friends started learning the art of DJing. In early 2006 he purchased his first set of records. Soon to follow would be his first set of turntables, which would consume most of his spare time.
Having previously only been involved in the running of Sunday Open Turntables at Boom! Nightclub, He started DJing under the name "Phat Tony." This created a perfect learning environment, in which he could not only hone his own skills but also observe and learn from the other DJs. Playing alongside local DJs LocoMotive, The Ghist, [sic]adelic, and others, as well as taking influences from DJs like Cyn L, Art Official, Dysklo, SoundSyster and Sir K, he would quickly evolve his mixing style and musical tastes.
Eventually he adopted the DJ name Phasta, which he currently plays under. Phasta can also be seen playing under the tag team name "Cynical Bass" alongside partner Lucas Stobbs, AKA [sic]adelic. Together they have become a rising success, playing to various audiences both live and in public, and through various online shows.
The different sounds of DJ Phasta:
Surrounded by different types of music, Phasta has quickly branched off into many areas of the electronic scene. His main area of focus is and always will be breakbeats. From pounding and electric, grinding 4x4, heart pounding tear out, and even reggae influenced, Phasta's love for breakbeats has few limitations.
More recently, Phasta has delved into the world of Electro House. With many producers and and artists crossing over from the breakbeat world into the electro scene, this was surely unavoidable. Of course, Breaks and Electro complement each other very nicely, and you will find the two crossing paths more and more frequently in Phasta's mixes.
Finally, branching off into a completely different direction, Phasta can be heard playing the mellow atmospheric sounds of Liquid Funk. Delving into the more laid back spectrum of Drum and Bass, this music grabs at your soul and doesn't let go. Definitely something to be heard.
Of course, Phasta is a strong believer in playing to the crowd. If you can't read your audience and determine what it is they'll want to hear, then you're not doing your job. The ultimate goal is to make sure everyone is enjoying what they're hearing, whether that means having a floor full of moving bodies, or just a room full of people sitting back, enjoying their drinks and bobbing their heads.
Affiliations:
Tony Gore is now the sole promoter for Boom! Nightclub's Sunday Open Turntables event. He has also established a residency with Damage Control Entertainment, and still maintains his ties with GravyTrain Productions. More recently he obtained a residency with Bedlam Entertainment, based out of Halifax. His graphic art can also still be seen throughout the Fredericton scene and abroad, having established himself as the primary artist for DCE, GTP, Bedlam, and Boom!'s Sunday Open Turntables event. Along with establishing himself locally within Fredericton New Brunswick, Phasta has also played in Montreal, Moncton, and Halifax. He has also made appearances on radioglitch.co.uk, ibreaksradio.co.uk, and nsb radio.co.uk (2008 Breakspoll winner of best online Breakbeat Radio station).
Relatively fresh to the scene, DJ Phasta brings forth a style of mixing and music that's not to be missed. Fast paced, electric, heart pumping and floor bumping, Phasta is a force to be reckoned with. |
